If you are into clocks, I suggest a trip to Spillville Iowa to visit the Bily Brothers clock museum. We went there three summers ago. It is a nice day road trip from where I live and very enjoyable.
As I recall the brothers purchased the actual clock movements from the Swiss. They also obtained exotic wood from around the world. They used local and exotic woods for the enclosures. They constructed special tools for working with the wood that are on display also.
There is one clock with a wooden movement. I think they made the movement for that one.
I believe the museum is open on a regular basis in the Summer and at other times by appointment. It would be wise to check prior to making a trip.
