Subject: Re: poor internet speed

Lubbock, Texas
1. have you always had slow speeds with this service

2. when the service tech came out and replaced all the equipment did he happen to have a laptop he could hook up to see what speeds he got

3. what version of windows or other OS are you running

4. how old is the PC and can you give any other specs on it like amount of memory

5. do you have any neighbors using that same distant access point and if so do they have the same slow speeds

6. I assume with a router you have more that one PC and they both get bad speeds

7. go here http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ run test and please post results...hit any of the cities it really does not matter much

8. go to start->run in the run box type in cmd and hit ok (command if older than windows 2000) and when the box pops up type in everything in the brackets but not the brackets with the spaces (ping www.yahoo.com -t)........let it run about 100 replies....you hit CTRL and the letter C at the same time to stop it....it will say packets sent and packets received it should be 100% received how many were lost of not 100% received......it will have time= ??ms listed.........are any of those numbers in the high hundreds or the thousands......are a LOT of them in the high hundreds or thousands (if have a firewall allow it to access internet for the test)

you will be sending packets of nothing to yahoo and seeing if they all get there and the replies they were received are getting back to you....the time is in milliseconds

9. what times of the day are the speeds good....what times are they bad....is it consistent times each day or does it vary greatly

10. what does your ISP say.....they say you are stuck it seems

depending on the answers to these questions there could be some things to try
