Subject: What's fair?

A little over two weeks ago I got a phone call from a neighbors hired man saying there was a newborn calf off by himself/ wandering around next (across the county road) to their cows. When I got over there I hauled the calf over to my cows where I had unrolled a bale, the calf wandered up and down the line bawling for mom. The day before I did have two cows calve close to where this calf was but none of my cows acted like the calf was theirs.

Before I left that pasture with the calve in the pickup I called the hired man and left him a message saying that I wasn't sure the calf was mine and ask if they had a cow that was looking for a calf. Never heard back from him, so I brought him to the house and made a bottle calf out of him.

Until yesterday they ( hired man or owner) hadn't called, now the guy that owns the cows thinks this calf is his and want's it back, said he will "make it right".

So what does stocktalk say "right" is?

All I can come up with is having him name a dollar figure and I will decide buy or sell.
