How many calved in the first 21 day cycle? This year they came early and I was 14% done fore the due date

Curious to know others opinions on how to figure.

Due date is today... I want to take all that have calved up til today then all that calve in the next 21 days to give me a % calved in the first cycle

Does anyone use the date they first start to calve as Day 1 of the first cycle ?

You remember the saying - - - 'there's liars and then there's liars and then there's those !@#$%^ statistics.'

What becomes important is why you use whatever criteria you are using.

I'm not sure there is a perfect ratio but just for me I'd be looking at %age of calves born before the beginning of the 22nd day after 283 days (whatever the 'normal' cattle gestation is) after the bull was turned out. That percentage 'should' be calculated from the number of cows turned out to the bull but most people just use the total number of animals calving for the base number.
