just a tish NE of central ND
Like the title says...Ive never know what is the right way to determine gear lash on gears you can not see into.(enlosed with no inspection cover)There would be no place for a dial indicator agains the gear. How do you determine backlash? By "feel"of the play when it is tightened down?
Out of the old atlas lathe, when I pull the gears and swap, I just run a sheet of typing paper between the gears for a backlash guide.
