On those pto's your supposed to take the shifter cover off and stick a dial indicator on the pto gear. Rock the gear back and forth. Supposed to be between 6 and 12 thousands of free play. Take a shim out if too loose, add one if too tight. One thick and one thin gasket is a good starting point
