Oops, I don't think we are on the same page...There is such a thing as Reverse Polarity...

It's not a problem for most devices, but some electronics won't handle it.

It's where someone reversed black and white wires, usually ex-navy ship builders that were electricians, starting from the box into the house.

Thinking a lighter color wire (white, in this case) carries the load, and the black is neutral.
