Subject: RE: Oats vs spring barley

West Central Iowa
The barley will do better on saline ground than oats and will have higher protein than oats in general. Keep peas away from the saline ground, but they would probably be worth throwing in on the other ground. Barley should cut a little before oats but I think the yield on non-saline ground will be a toss up depending on the year. I only have experience with oats in Iowa and barley in nw Mn. But, I can tell you you want to get both of them planted timely especially that far south.
