Subject: RE: lifespan of kinze openers

KMech - 2/10/2019 09:11 I know a guy that put them on his planter, and he likes them. They cost about 3x OEM, but I think he said they lasted about 3x as long. To me, that's break even on the parts cost, and coming out ahead on the labor savings. I had been intending to try them out at my next blade change. I was going to put them on the same time as new blades, on half the planter, and put OEM units on the other half. That was going to be next year, but when I pulled the planter in the shop this year I found enough bearings that were loose enough I had to accelerate by blade replacement timetable. It was in the shop and I had not yet had time to source the parts, so I used what I had on hand (OEM).

An additional benefit of our Valions is that the opener works the same at the end of the season as at the beginning.  As fast as the Kinze guards wear, quite often your furrow is getting too narrow and erratic partway thru the season.

Plus, with ours, you get rid of the silly allen-head bolts.  We use hex heads.
