This has been in the cards for a few years now. There has been a move to weather proof growing the 3 major crops. They just about got it done. Every year there is a little bit more left over. Stock pile is big enough to take a hole year off.

Go look at the numbers. Its cold out side and every one is thinking in the back of there mind about spring planting, and how to grow more. just a few more bushels. final numbers haven't gone backwards for what 4 5 years. Called cheap food policy . thank you USDA.
.
These are the numbers from the Dec 18 WASDE https://www.usda.gov/oce/commodity/wasde/latest.pdf
US total use vs. ending stocks 18/19 MY projected.
Wheat, all classes: 2,149 million bushels used vs 974 million bushel carry out. About 5.4 months carryout
Corn: 15 billion bushels used vs 1.8 billion carryout. Not quite 1.5 month carryout
Soybeans: 4,107 million bushels used vs. 955 million bushel carryout. 2.8 month carryout.
We are a long ways off from having a year's extra supply on hand. Thankfully.
