Could be a private group, bank, or federal government. It isn't always the taxpayer as was alluded to by the other response. Too broad a brush.

I'm not advocating or condoning what happened, but it just garners a lot more attention when the #s are big. Why is this any worse than 10 smaller farmers equating the same $s with the same situation do it. Same $s written down, just spread out over 10 operations vs. 1. Still sucks. Still was too aggressive.

Besides - No one complains when the loans are all going well to the favor of the note holders. Why should their "lives" always be perfect and without risk. For some odd reason in the end they all seem to come out ahead?
