If you dont do a lot of cooking that creates smoke or odors, you could just not use the vent. We have a gas Jen-air thing, hardly ever use the vent. Wife had to have a accessory for "grilling" inside so it had to have the vent. She got tired of cleaning that up after 3 or 4 uses.
