Subject: RE: Sidedress corn with urea?

West of Mpls MN about 50 miles on Hwy 12
I went from side dressing nh3 to side dressing urea with an airbox and bar with John Deere single disc openers about 2003.

No hoping for rain. No N loss, Less horsepower and time requirements, less corn tramped in our hills, and irregular shaped fields, easier/safer to handle...happier earthworms is a bonus. ;-)

I put down 18-20 lbs. of actual N/acre planter applied dry starter.

I use a side dress blend of AMS, ESN. and Urea

4 lbs. of actual N/acre from the AMS

10 lbs. of actual N/acre from the ESN

96 lbs. of actual N/acre from the Urea

Straight urea works too.

In theory I have N readily available the day before I side dress right through tassel with the blend.

If the weather cooperates, I grow 200+ bushel/acre corn with this program.

Last year one of my suppliers sold me 32% for the same price per lbs of N as urea. I spent about $150.00 on suction hose and rigged some "directional" drops on my Hagie and shot 52 GPA of 32% under the canopy, directly onto the corn row. That worked too.
