800x134- 1072 ( where I think they’d be here)
1072-40 for price of put-1032
1032-75 you want to make-957
957-200 feed and yardage-757
757-20 interest- 737
737-22-715 death loss and meds 3%
715/530=134 per lb you can do that in small numbers here but if anything goes wrong you don’t have much slack.
I’m sure my figures won’t work there. I’m not trying to get you to use my figures. I just want you to know you’re plan won’t work for me. I realize you didn’t ask. Trying to help.

Thanks for the reply. I think your numbers are close to mine with a few differences. Here is what I am figuing
$850 for 530# heifer delivered " these are 200hd Montana one ranch direct"
$ 26 death loss
$129 feed costs
$53 yardage "$.40 per day"
$20 vet/processing
$20 trucking out
$ 8.5 May $1.36 put
$1,106.50 per head @ 850#s = $1.30 breakeven

I have the abilities to finnish all the way out also if it looks like that would be the better option also. I think I will put a put on them and ride it out a while and possibly hedge if the feeder market runs up.
