Subject: RE: Power chip and fuel consumption

NE ND
We’ve had a Steinbauer chip on a Steiger w/ 15L Cummins for about 5 years now with great results. When I was looking into the chip, the Steinbauer rep was very straightforward in saying you won’t save much, if any, fuel if you ran at 2000 rpm at 85% before and you run at 2000rpm at 60% power now. Reduction in fuel comes from being able to throttle back some and still have the same lugging ability as before. He flat out told me it’s not really a fuel per acre savings but more-so a fuel per HP produced savings, can do more with less type scenario. That being said, we also have a Steinbauer on an Iveco in one of our combines, and I wouldn’t hesitate to put another Steinbauer on any of our machines if the need arises.

Not knocking any custom tuners at all as the need might arise for their services in the future as well, but I think Steinbauer makes a great product.
