You have to arrange for the plant tours at least a day in advance but they will tour with just one person, did for me a couple years ago.

To to TravelIowa.com and down load their tour guide that covers the whole state. Should be available at all welcome centers around the state.

The Grout museum complex in Waterloo is good about history including 5 sons of one family that died on the same ship in world war 2.

The Silos and smokestacks guide is good for north east Iowa and agricultural.

The Hemken collection of cars in Williams (open Fridays) is very good but not in the Silos and Smokestacks guide.

More places to visit are open summers than winters in Iowa.
