Holly Island, AR | A few years ago I documented my journey as I restored my great grandfathers 36 Ford. And all the great feedback I got here kept me motivated even more. I guess I’m posting this as I am thinking hard about starting another winter project that I mentioned I might tackle eventually at the end of the Ford journey.
My grandpa bought my dad this 1948 Willy’s Jeep in the early 60’s and also for farm use. My grandpa was stationed at the Panama Canal during WW2 and became part of the moter pool that kept all the jeeps running. Dad drove this Jeep for almost 10 years using it for fun and in the farm. Finally the motor went on it and it has been in this shed ever sense for near 50 years. After the Ford project my dad said he’d like for me to restore “Ole Willy” as he has always called it. Dad has old friends visit the farm from time to time and they ask him every time if he still has Ole Willy. My dad will soon turn 69 and I think it’s time to restore ole Willy. The Ford turned out awesome but ole Willy has some issues before she went down. Dad said he thinks the transfer case is out. These old jeeps had the Dana 18 so parts are readily available it seems. I’m planing on starting on this this winter. Will probably take more time with it than the Ford. You got one chance to enjoy a restoration such as this and I plan on making it as fun as pops old Ford. I’ll try to make some posts from time to time like last time. Wish me luck. Bret.
