Garland Maine | I don't know a lot, but here is how I would "sell" the deal to your brother:
Split all costs of maintenance and repairs on the drill by the acres used.
Big tractors cost money to run. Tires, oil changes, wear and tear, maintenance, etc. you have used this tractor for quite a while, so you don't feel it is right to split the cost of a potential expensive repair like a turbo or something, so it is more fair to charge a set rate per engine hour to cover these costs. The Iowa custom rate survey puts a fair rental at twenty cents per hp per hour, not including fuel. This puts your tractor at $75 or so, each putting your own fuel in for your own acres.
Labor has two parts. Labor for operating the equipment and labor for repairing the equipment. I would set that at something reasonable and equal. Say $30 an hour?
