Texas, the really flat part | I was involved in Brazilian agriculture for over a decade and managed to learn a few things. Development of new agricultural land is restricted depending upon how environmentally sensitive the particular area is. When you move into the Amazon basin the restrictions become quite severe. Generally only 10% of an owners holdings in a given municipality can be cleared, the remainder has to be left in its natural state. This, unfortunately is the area their new president has talked about developing.
Will this happen? Who knows, if it does we are probably screwed environmentally and economically. |
