Subject: RE: Convergence time for best repeatibility using CORS

RTK definitely delivers the lowest convergence time, but I would not say there is none. I have done testing with a single base solution and found with a cold start that the position tightened up over 10-15 minutes. Usually the error is tolerable and the grower would not see (much) of a difference. However, if you're looking for the highest accuracy, I would let the system converge for 10-15 minutes on a cold start.

Under a system that delivers a VRS solution, such as most CORS, there no difference other than that the correction signal might be a little more accurate for your location.

The convergence time is a function of the rover receiver finding it's position by averaging the calculated position over a period of time. A cold start is like dropping a man in the middle of nowhere. A warm start is like dropping a man at an unknown location and telling him he is approx. 5 miles east of Des Moines, IA.
