I took in a presentation by Kevin Bradley - University of Missouri Extension Weed Scientist. Way over simplified, you are correct. Most dicamba injury done in the V stages turns out to be mainly cosmetic with relatively low yield loss. Dicamba injury done in the R stages has different levels of devastation... Years ago, when it was used on corn, the soys were almost always in the V stages if/when dicamba drifted / volatilised. Nowadays, with late post applications on soybeans, cotton or even early post apps on double crop soys in proximity to early planted fields, the potential for significant injury is exponential - and frankly has been - in soys, dry beans, vegetable crops and tree crops. I'll quit there for now... |
