Woodham, Ontario | With a double 12, 100 cows per hour is good. if you put 2 guys in the parlour the whole time, procedure just falls apart. Guys stand around doing nothing and they don't want to wait for the milk to let down. There was not enough time for the milk to get picked up and the tank to get washed properly between 2 milkings. That takes about an hour and a half, but the truck doesn't always show up on time. There was no room for a second tank in the milk house. The milkhouse was designed for a 3000 gal tank and we had a 7000 gal tank in there. We are on every day pickup. If you have any problems or a lot of cows that calve, then there was very little time between milkings. Sometimes the morning shift would show up while the night milkers where about to leave. Right now about 80 cows from the home dairy are being milked at the second dairy temporarily during construction.
The new parlour should be able to handle 2000 cows 3x per day. 250-300 cows per hour. | |
