| I have ran the Sophos AV system on a network of nearly 3,000 Windows XP-Vista-7.x PLUS Apple computers. It's a respectable anti-virus with the one huge advantage - Sophos updates their virus definition files HOURLY if needed. Back in the days of yor, when computer techs rode horses between their clients, viruii were running rampant and hourly updates on a college campus were critical to retain sanity. We had one Sophos server that collected the AV definition files from Sophos, then dished them out to the clients upon their request. One computer requesting hourly updates vs 3,000 updates coming down the pipe every hour made a lot of sense.
I also am a huge fan of Windows Defender. By design, every single anti-virus has hooks going deep inside your Windows system, down to the kernel levels. And hackers have been very successful breaking the AV systems and getting into the computers.
Windows Defender is a Micro$oft component of Windows - updated whenever threats are discovered and probably the most successful a-v available - PLUS IT'S FREE! | |
