I've got fences that have been burned every 2 or 3 years for forty some years.    I think it does weaken it some, but doesn't ruin it if the fire is moving.    Some hedge posts will occasionally catch fire,  but that's what steel posts are for.   A K-State prof once told me he had a theory,  " If you burn regularly like you should, you will eventually have mostly steel posts".
