| The USDA has a program for "cost sharing" of replacement fencing for fence which has been damaged by prairie fires. I sit on the FSA County Committee in my County, so we administered a number of applications for cost sharing in my county due to fires last year.
The "official" USDA position is that fire indeed damages the galvanization of the wire, which leads to a much shorter life expectancy due to premature rusting of the wire, AND that any flaws in the wire are exaggerated, leading to brittleness and breaking. I would also agree with WYDAVE that a loss of tensile strength occurs, when the wire is heated, which leads to loose fencing, and wires that are difficult to stretch tight again, and STAY stretched tightly. showboat | |
