se montana | as I near the end of my first calving cycle, I've had about 10% death loss and one dead 2 year old that had been calved for a couple weeks. That is a very expensive loss for this operation, and there wasn't much, if anything I could've done to prevent it. Mostly stillborns. Amongst the living calves, there have been feet back, heads back, and backwards calves that required more help than usual. Its irritating, especially when I talk to my neighbors and their calving is just peachy, but it is what it is.
I've had these years before and remember wanting to find a different way to make money, but glad I didn't. As long as these wrecks don't financially break me, I figure I can handle it.
