Subject: RE: Feeeding calves whole milk

nw NC
I feed milk to calves and have done so for years. Milk is not pasteurized and never had to treat a calf for scours. When using milk replacer, scours would be frequent. Milk I use would sometimes be what you would call waste milk. i.e. fresh cow not ready for tank, bloody milk, cow with higher leukocyte count but not gross, lumpy milk. Antibiotic treated cows milk - sometimes , dependent upon the product and how long since treated. Most of the time though I just used salable milk. At beginning of milking, I put pipe into buckets and get enough to feed the calves , then put pipe into tank.
