1’ of water is .433psi so your rule of thumb sounds right.
My nonprofessional opinion is once the check valve is open it’s open since the cracking pressure is just what it takes to compress the spring. There’s going to be some loss through it but minimal.
Since you’re assuming 2’ of water has 1psi when it’s actually 0.866psi I think you’ve got enough safety factor built in.
