Use something with a knockdown but no residual and spray later in the evening when bees aren't foraging your patch. Neem oil is also an organic option that works but is less effective then an insecticide. I used both neem oil and a generic pyrethrin this year with hives 20ft from my patch and had okay results keeping the numbers down and not affecting my hives. With no residual control you will have to make multiple applications to keep the beetles under control. I quit spraying the end of August and the beetle population exploded. Next year I will probably extend my spraying into the 2nd week of September.
