NE Iowa | Just dropping seed on top the ground won't get much of a stand. In similar situations I have disked the grass to take some of it out and get some loose ground. Then drill 20# to the acre of alfalfa. If it is a light finishing disk hit it twice. If a big heavy disk with big blades once was enough. I never want to kill all the grass just maybe 50% of it to give the alfalfa a fighting chance. I never want a pure alfalfa stand so this has given me a nice mixed stand where I've done it. | |
