Yes the sealant was a dull red color and I thought seemed very sparse and dried out. It was almost like a tiny ring of it that did little to seal the connection.
The "dull" red pipe dope is what comes factory on many new fittings. We usually add some fresh stuff (Loctite 567) when we install them at work.
JD 8300 leaking seat fixed !
