Yes and no. Being that the OP is from mid Michigan, I would guess he's planning on the annual rye grass winter killing. I used it as a nurse crop for spring planted alfalfa back in 2012 and it did winter kill. "Elunaria" was the variety I used if I recall correctly. I'm thinking it's getting pretty late in the season to get any growth out of rye grass before it winter kills.
