I don't know the answer but a friend of mine just posted on Facebook that both her and her husbands "dumb" phones have reverted to that date as well. My GF's iPhone 6 lost an hour, my iPhone 6 is fine. The deal on the phones was blamed on the carrier but it sure seems strange that the date was the same as your Viper.
