Little late to the thread but oats/your choice of brassica is a good cheap option if you want it to winter kill and have some fall forage value. We are going to plant annual rye, clover, oats, rapeseed here, take baleage off in the fall and a dry cut in the spring with an option to keep some longer next year using red clover.
Ideas on what to plant after wheat?
