"Here" In the RRV, if you leave the cornstalks standing, you will have more black ground showing. If you shred them you will have a mat of material that gets like a carpet and won't dry. I guess it all depends on if you want to hold the moisture or get it drying. Your area, soil conditions, climate will affect things differently than here. Also, not to many no-tillers here, but there are years when corn harvest gets to late to work the ground. That's when I let the stalks stand over winter. Good luck.
