SouthCentral WI | About 5 months ago, I ran into the same problem. I use a wireless ISP that has an antenna on the city water tower about a mile away. After a lot of calls back and forth the ISP's installer explained to me that the signal they were using was in the 900mhz. (a public band) The city water dept put in a 900 mhz system to talk between it's different components of the system and the band got to dirty to get a good signal.
I can remember one episode that happen at about 5 pm one day. The internet was doing well and then just out of the blue it went bad.
Long story short the ISP put in a 2.4ghz system with faster service and a little more money. I am extremely happy with the new system. I just wish they had come out and told me what the issue was sooner.
