Subject: RE: Broadband and the Internet

Just had a conversation with tech this morning.

They force you to have a landline with DSL service. Can't just get naked DSL. Phone line was so scratchy and had so much hum you could not carry on a conversation. When tech called I could not even make him out that he was on the way.

Second time this year there has been an issue with landline. Only house on this road so we are the only line. In March or April had no dial tone. Turns out the twisted pair had burned in 2 they switched out the pair and it was okay again. Today he switched to another twisted pair as there was another issue in the cable coming up the road yet again. Must have taken a lightening strike somehow and may have weakened the cable or blown through insulation some where.  At some point we will be out of twisted pairs to switch.

Inquired about miserable DSL speed and heard that capacity and bandwidth is being taxed during peak usage and equipment is at it's limit but HQ will not approve any funds for upgrades for this exchange. The most frustrating thing is the DSL switch/ connection box is within 3 ft of a fiber optic line and they are not allowed or approved to tap into that.

Also all the other Windstream exchanges in the area got upgraded to faster speeds with fiber connections but ours. Some even have fewer customers than us.

Seems Windstream took federal /state money to make high speed internet upgrades in Ohio but seems all they are interested in is shareholder profits and to heck with actual customers.

I guess I will run a week long test on connection speed and forward that to the public utility commission for state of Ohio.

No other options and just outside the reach of a wireless ISP coming off elevator tower.  Satellite has too much latency.

Third world countries have better overall internet speeds than the USA.

We run around the world providing for others while our own infrastructure collapses around us.
