| Could be an issue of assembly. Rebuilt one for a 4890 some years back, and didn't have a service manual so to be careful, I made a series of different sized spacers in the engine lathe to assemble the unit without putting any axial thrust on the bearings as I remember everything fitting pretty tight. There is nothing worse on high speed bearings than using a hammer and even a press will damage them if you send the forces through the bearing. This is where the spacers come in. Takes some thought when assembling to avoid bearing damage. Just takes time but is well worth the extra effort. | |
