NEWTON, IL (SE IL.) | We set up several planters like that each year.
The biggest issue with the diaphragm pump, is that you are let to one rate, no matter your speed. This is because the rate is set with a pressure relief valve & orifices.
So if you are set for 5 gallons per acre at 5 miles per hour, if you speed up to 51/2 MPH, you will not get 5 GPH. Just like setting a sprayer up with speed & pressure.
You MIGHT be able to gear the pump to get your rate no matter the speed, but to my knowledge nobody has done it. They didn't design them to be a quick-change design on the sprockets like you population is.
