Driftless SW Wisconsin

Ken, Thanks for the kind words.

One comment on adding lift assist wheels to your 3 point Moore-built toolbar: We still need to keep the top 3-point link for proper strip till row unit operation. We need to keep the toolbar square with the back of the tractor - not floating on the lower links and lift assist wheels as on a lift assist planter.

I suggest plumbing the lift assist into a separate remote scv valve so the lift assist wheels can be allowed to float when strip tilling in the field and the top link still keeps the toolbar from rolling around its long axis while going down the field.

Moore-built has some very sturdy, cost-effective lift assist modules for that toolbar.

On fertilizer. I am not an agronomist so I will let that topic RIP except to warn you and others that routinely broadcast fertilizer ahead of planting soybeans: taking the same rate you would broadcast ahead of soybeans and putting it in a band/spring strip just ahead of planting soybeans can concentrate the fertilizer to a degree that actually hurts soybean yields.

Spring strip tilling fertilizer (with the strip till unit) ahead of planting beans REQUIRES a reduced fertilizer rate. Soybeans do not like too much fertilizer too close too or in contact with the seed, as I am sure you are aware. We have found this out the hard way.

If you broadcast fertilizer ahead of beans with an air flow or spinner applicator, there is no negative effect of strip tilling since the fertilizer is dispersed as usual.

Best Regards,

Jim at Dawn
