Time for a little detective work. Find the breaker in the box that runs the softener. Trace back where the wire exits the main box. Either it does have a bare ground wire or it doesnt,,,it will also have a covered wire going to the ground bar

Now generally the breaker box and the softener are pretty close together. Even if they are not a new wire strung where it should be over to the softener with a 3 prong is an easy spare time project. if your house is built pre 3 wire time then you can put quite a few extra 3 wire outlets easily on main floor if your basement is unfinished. Finished just makes it a little harder.

It is easier and better to do it the right way up front,,,run a new wire.
