I knew that motor looked familiar. We use the clearpath stepper killers on one of the 3D printers at work. They are nice and never loose steps due to the internal encoder. What did you use to step Up the voltage to the clearpaths?

Have you looked at Oriental Motor closed loop stepper motors? They may be another low cost option.

Nice print. What printer do you have? If you ever have issues with the spacer collapsing or twisting try the 3DXTEC carbon fiber ABS. You need a hardened nozzle to print it though.


For my 70v power supply I ended up using a pure sine wave power inverter with 70v DC power supplies. I want to do a little more experimenting and see if I can make it work good enough off 24v.

I did look at cheaper servo motors, but they all have separate driver modules that you have to mount somewere. But more importantly they won't run off the pwm signal like the ClearPath will. And that would complicate the control system A lot. As far as my 3D printer, it's a Taz 5.
