Aberdeen MS | I maintained my average yield but my net income increased due to less nutrients applied (my soil test results increased and I went from build to maintenance levels) with banding, fuel usage dropped dramatically, and my corn drying bill dropped utilizing a later harvest date and natural drying.
Just with those 3 areas, on a 250/250 acre rotation of corn/beans, utilizing spring of 2009 prices, I portrayed around a $14,000 a year savings for that type of operation in Southern MN.
That amount of dollars relates to a $7/hr 2000 hour work year (considered full time hours).
Other areas of savings was less hours spent in the field, reduction of equipment needed. In my situation, I eliminated my ripper, FC, 4 wheel drive, drag/harrow, etc.
I had 2 tractors that on a 600 acre operation got less than 200 hours combined usage and I used about 1200 gal fuel for a 12 month period of time. | |
