Subject: RE: Getting rid of old gasoline

How much and how old? This past summer we took it upon ourselves to get my grandparents old 76 Buick Regal going. I changed the fuel pump and the gas smelled like turpentine. And so did my hands and my watch for about 3 weeks. Anyway, got it running and topped off the tank with good gas and it ran fine. But until we mixed in some good gas it would not run worth a darn. Gas was probably at least 15 years old. I would say anything older than 10 years don't bother trying to blend it off unless you have something old and crude.

On a side note we had hired help (that shall remain nameless) that we told to go out to the field and fuel up the tractor. What did he do? He put diesel in the saddle tanks. Luckily the saddle tanks were empty and had not been used for many years. We ran the diesel through the old 1855 oliver auger tractor and it never missed a beat.
