The way i understand is if your crop gets buried in the snow and you cannot harvest it they will calculate a yield, and be unable to collect crop insurance if the bushels are there.  Little different in the northern cornbelt where snow doesn't leave until spring....

So i don't understand how moving the harvest date back helps.
