Just take the bent stuff and cut in half so you can't think of the all the possible uses. The augers now are balanced and if you were to cut any amount off it wouldn't be balanced. I've thought of doing the same as you when we had our mishaps but just torched them. This thing you call a "duckbill" is there a web site to see a pic of it.
