Subject: RE: Couple of DJI P3A questions

1. The return home feature should always go to it's safe elevation, navigate to the home point, then land. The only thing I could think of is if the drone thought it was close enough to home that it didn't need to move. Try it again from the other side of the farmstead and see what happens then. As far as the battery thing, if you are using the DJI GO app (the free one) it will have battery indicator on the top of the flying screen. On that line, there will be a circle with an "H" in it. Once the battery reaches that level it will automatically start the return home function. You will notice the "H" move left and right on that line, because it calculates a safe amount of battery to run that function.

2. The best way to view pictures is to remove the Micro SD card in the Gimbal computer (Silver square above the camera) and place it in a card reader and view them on your computer. If that is not possible, you can always use the cord that you connect the controller to your phone/tablet. On the front of the drone, there is a gray rubber cover with a USB sign on it. The small end goes in there and the larger end with the normal USB goes to the computer. The drone must be on for the card to be read. Then it will register as a hard drive in your file explorer, and you can go through it like any other files you have on your computer. Taking pictures and videos with the sun low is possible. The best thing to do is either cut the horizon out of the picture, or change the exposure point to the darkest part of the picture by tapping on the screen of the device in the area you want the exposure. This is only a compensation though, so you might be risking lower quality.

3. The range on the P3s is 1 mile. However, at about a half mile, the live video will start to get choppy and it may make you nervous. But know that the controller and the drone can communicate up to a mile apart. If you do happen to lose signal, the drone will start the return home function. If you have a set distance from you that it can fly, it will get close to that distance and it will not let you fly outside those boundaries. That is the same for the FAAs height regulation of 400ft. At about 398ft the drone will stop and wont let you go up any more.

Tips: Switching the flight mode to ATTI will cancel all automated flight and you will be able to control the drone. My co-worker and I had a drone land on an interstate overpass about 6ft from the guard rail and we didn't learn this until after the fact. But remember that in ATTI mode, the drone will not compensate for the wind. For farmers checking fields and wanting to do regular passes, the DJI Ultimate Flight app ($20) is worth the money. In that app, you can set waypoints on a map without actually flying the route. You can name and save those flights and rerun them at any time. If you do that, once it comes time to fly, all the waypoints need to be within the circle around the drone on the satellite view. That will not make sense yet, but play around with it and it will make sense when it needs to.

If you have any more questions you can certainly call myself (Andrew) or Dan at Total Ag Industries: 701-636-4524
