Western Iowa
No, you won't be in better shape.

It is a coin toss with 30 year old tractors. Sorry to say it, but it is true. On NAT here guys fall over themselves on how reliable Magnum tractors are, but in my experience they are just ok, even a little sub par in area's.

I had similar issues with hydraulics, as have other local tractors. Brakes are another marginal spot. Pinion shafts in the axles are weak as well. Park system is a joke, front axle finals have issues as well. I can't remember the specifics there, but the 4 pinion fronts were better or showed the updated hubs or something of the sort.

Having said that, paying $16-17 per hour of tractor use isn't too bad. How much cheaper do you want? You can get cheaper than that, and you can get higher than that, it is just a crap shoot with a used tractor.

When you use them 2-300 hours per year your costs per hour will always be higher than a guy running 6-700 hours per year.
