southern MN | Think every state handles teachers a little different, in my state has a union set up where the old teachers get a pretty good pay, starting out is not that great.
They have 'lane changes' which pay better for more education. So you are not getting a pay raise, you are changing lanes. Pay raises can be pretty darn small, but as you add to your education, you enter a different lane and your salary goes up.
Ends up like farming, you struggle a lot early in your career when you have energy and time to spend on kids; when you want to coast through the end of your career and just get done, the pay is pretty cushy.
Some might take issue with me, my mom and my sister both were teachers. Lot of teachers put in a lot of extra work; there are plenty the other way I've seen and heard it both ways.
