N FLA | No regret. I fed cows all summer for fertilizer cost only. Now they are putting calves on the ground. The bred cows I sold this summer only brought $1.15 per pound. Only a few problem cows. But good luck replacing them with a good pair this week for $1150. So its not a no-brainer to me to turn over all inventory. Many of these cows are adding more value per day than something I might buy at the market. And risk is minor compared to buying replacements. I sold 30 cows and still haven't replaced them. I have cows I'm borderline on selling, but until I replace 20 more, those cows are adding value to my pasture anyway.
I've mentioned before I try to balance my cash, feed, and cows. I really like always having something to sell also. | |
